The questions we're asked most about the Safe Housing Fund. If yours isn't here, reach out to us.
Deductibility depends on how the specific campaign is structured and the receiving entity's DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status. Check the donation page or your receipt for confirmation. If it isn't marked as tax-deductible, it's a direct gift to the fund rather than a tax-deductible donation. If you need a formal receipt for your records, get in touch and we'll confirm your specific situation.
We never publish, share, or ask for identifying details about the people this fund supports. Referrals and placements are handled directly by housing and support services, not by Under a Roof publicly. We fund the program; we don't manage individual cases. If you're a survivor considering reaching out, our get-help page explains what that process looks like without requiring you to share personal details up front.
Money raised goes to the allocation categories set out on the Safe Housing Fund page: emergency and crisis housing, bond and rent support, and long-term pathways and wraparound support. Funds are paid out through partner services and providers who deliver frontline support, not handed directly to individuals, so the money is spent on housing outcomes with appropriate oversight.
If the campaign raises more than its goal, the surplus stays within the Safe Housing Fund and is applied to the same categories. It does not get redirected to Under a Roof's general programs. If the campaign falls short, funds already raised are still applied in full to the fund's purpose; a lower total simply means fewer people can be supported until further funding is raised.
Yes. General donations through our Give page support Under a Roof's broader housing programs. Donations to the Safe Housing Fund are kept separate and go only toward domestic violence housing support, so if this specific cause is what motivated you to give, your donation is tracked against it directly.
